Mask wearing and vaccination are not different topics. Wearing a mask is to protect others. (Even though most people still believe it protects them) Vaccination protects you, but it is necessary to build herd immunity—I.e., protecting everyone.
There are only 3 ways out of this:
Containment: no longer possible. That’s what lockdowns, social distancing, mask wearing were for. Didn’t work.
Infection: just let everyone get it. Unconscionable
Innoculation: get vaccinated, herd immunity.
The way I see it, mask wearing will continue until vaccines are widely available. After that, you will not be able to force the people who have acted to help protect everyone to continue wearing masks for those who will not protect themselves.
Many say this is like the seasonal flu. True. We do not force everyone to stay masked when individuals can opt to take a vaccine to protect themselves and others.
