By the time the 18 years and under crowd would become eligible for the vaccine it will have been determined that it is safe for them to get it. As much as I don't like it, it will be a surprise to me if Covid vaccination doesn't become a requirement for attending public school.
Herd immunity will take care of itself. Those that want to get vaccinated and those that will be required to be vaccinated will be. Those that refuse to get vaccinated will either get lucky and not contract the virus or will become part of the herd the natural way. For the most part, the virus will only be a risk to those who choose to be at risk.
Immunity will last until next Fall. At that point the science will indicate that the best course of action will be to get a Covid booster along with the yearly flu shot.
