Hello and thank you for the post. I agree with some who responded that social media has allowed people to hide behind a computer while saying things that they would never say to a person's face. The political climate and COVID-19 have added to the issue also. We should try to ask ourselves before hitting the "send" button the following things: Would I say this to the person's face? Will my words benefit the reader and add to the reason why most people move to The Villages?
I just read Boomer's post to my husband who unbeknownst to me had been reading the posts on this forum for four months before realizing that it was annoying him. His words not mine. He also just said, "I'm not looking for Mayberry RFD, but I am looking for some type of wholesomeness."
My husband and I plan to move to The Villages and I suppose were hoping to use this forum as a daily "fix" until we can leave Metro Atlanta in five years. My thought was also that by reading the various posts, we could be a step ahead by the time we move there. We visited for 10 days in July 2019, staying in a 3-bedroom house between Spanish Springs and Lake Sumpter but 10 days only gives a person a small taste of the good life.
Those who have not yet visited may be put off, thinking that some of the posts here are indicative of the mindset of Villagers. For me it is just a reminder that an escape from it ALL really is not possible. The people who we met during our short visit were thrilled to be alive and my husband kept saying how happy he was for each of them who had worked hard to get there.
Boomer, you are a great writer and I am sorry that this forum has robbed you of your joy. It would be nice if there were an outlet that better served you, by giving to you as much as you give to it.
