It is ceramic. If, you hit it with a hammer it will break just like dishes. Put on eye protection and have fun breaking it into small pieces that you can easily throw out with your trash. Putting it in a large trash bag and on a tarp will make clean up easier. It is likely the tank behind the toilet is secured with screws. Might be easier to do one piece at a time.
