Its not only the type of knee but its the process as well. My ex-hubs did a tremendous amount of research before his first knee surgery and felt comfortable with what the doctor and he decided to use. That surgery was very successful so when he went for the other knee, he told the doc to do the same thing exactly as prior surgery. Unfortunately, the doc decided to use glue to hold the incision closed rather than the staples, and my hubs was extremely allergic to the glue and eventually almost went into shock from the glue allergy. His leg blew up, and was totally swollen from the groin to the ankle and I had to rush him back to the hospital. When he asked the surgeon why he changed the process of closing the wound, it was his decision to do it this way, with no discussion with the patient. Now, granted, that is his decision as the professional but when a patient says "do it exactly the same way" why would you change it. So research and being adamant about what you want is extremely important.
