If the govt. had to pick through those that are retired, with pensions, paid off houses and money to spare, it would take forever and those that are in dire need of the check would have to wait that much longer. Just like Social Security and Medicare, there is fraud, but it wouldn't be a good idea not to give it to those that need it. Personally, I took my check and called a small, locally owned cleaning company to clean all of the ductwork in the house. I probably wouldn't have done that without that stimulus check. Basically, the money went right back in the economy, as it is intended to do. People can also just donate it to a charity, if they don't need it.
