Yes, it would be great if the cart paths on the bridge were 2 or 3 feet wider each, but consider the options. One solution would be to take 4-6 feet off the pedestrian walkway, not at all a feasible alternative. A second alternative would be to take the space from the traffic lanes. Don't know this for sure, but I expect the four lanes now in place don't have much if any superfluous width beyond what is required by law. (Aside -- more than once, I've been a tad shook up by some idiot flying over the bridge, normally northbound, straddling the center line at least twice the speed limit)
So this leaves the only obvious alternative of widening the bridge itself. Now we're talking really big money, I expect in the millions but really have no idea. Since Morse is county-owned and the cart paths are TV, I have no idea who would ultimately have the responsibility of any such action. There may be some other more viable solutions out there, but none come readily to mind. I expect the developer and VCDD folks have been hashing this over for several years, like maybe since the day the bridge opened and had real traffic and somebody said, "Ah hell, we blew it!"

I would think unless a buffalo were killed by a cart, nothing is going to change too soon.
