Default Email scam caution

We each received emails from different people we know including their email and name.
Starts out with please do me a favor....I have been trying to send a friend a $300 gift card....problems between bank and Amazon...would you get a gift card and email it to her for me and I will pay you back when the bank sorts it out.
Authenticated as scam by calling the person I knew whose info being used.

My wife got one from one of her cheerleader sisters (supposedly) saying her phone is out of order and asking for email contact to arrange support donation.
Authenticated by one of the Cheerleader sisters who called.

All very authentic looking....no greeting and no closing....which is strange....for us it was obvious what was being attempted.
Unfortunately there are far too many who will "bite".

If you are in doubt call the person you know to verify.
