Check your satellite transponder strengths. Should maybe still be under "settings , satellite, check satellite signal". Most should all be in the 90's with a couple 0's for local spotbeams. Been 6 years (whoops, edit, make that 10 years! Time flies!)since I was a tech trainer for DirecTV MDU Division so not sure where the sat test is any longer.
What message # are you getting on your TV screen? If all you have is a black screen and see nothing (or snow) when rebooting you are likely on the wrong input assuming your receiver is powered up.

If all sigs are ZERO you have a dish (or cut cable) issue.
