I looked at all the options myself when I moved here and chose Ring. It's about half the cost of Simply Safe after you add all you need to the basic system. The monthly charge is also cheaper.

The keypad was the biggest installation problem. I might have been less happy with the system if I hadn't been able to figure out a way to hide the keypad power cord. I don't know if the other DIY systems like Simply Safe have the same problem.

The keypad has battery backup, but it has a power supply that needs to be plugged in. Fortunately, my Lantana has a short wall between the kitchen and dining room, so I was able to drill a hole through the wall and plug the power supply into a receptacle in the kitchen above the counter top. The wire is mostly hidden behind the upper cabinet and you can't see it at all on the keypad side of the wall.
