It's kinda funny to read about folks that say "The shot must be right out of the camera!" because that's never been the way it is. Even shooting Tri-X with a Speed Graphic 4X5 there was some work to do in the darkroom. A bit of hand waving and such under the enlarger.
Now even with digital the chances of conditions being exactly right to get the shot you want are slim. The light, the background, no debris on the ground, facial expressions from shot to shot all can be fixed in post so why not?
Skills learned with Photoshop can be used to fix older shots, repair damaged historical photos and "change history".
All can be fun.
Yup and there is NO such thing as "straight out of the camera" in digital. All digital cameras have to provide internal post-processing of some kind (unless it's a phone). The sensors provide raw digital data, and it has to be converted to color data.

So, yeah, whatever floats their boats.
