It is not just here. Not in Florida and many years ago, I spoke to a neighbor about getting some work done. People not showing up for estimates etc. He was a high school guidance councilor. He said you remember them from school. They operate to a different drummer.

We had a job. Bids were between like 2,000 and 300. I called the guy in the middle
and the story was when I get back from, I don't remember what country it was, I will call you. I called the lowest guy we hired him. He did a great job. My wife paid him and he said he would be back on Saturday to re-spackle. Like everyone else, I figured my wife paid him fat chance he would come back. Well to my shock he did come back.

A friend needed a similar job done. I of course gave this guy the rave reviews he deserved. My friend called him and was told when he gets back from wherever he would call.

I also, was at a boat parts place. The guy before me was gossiping he was a plumber.
His part was expensive. He told the parts guy he would just add it on to his next plumbing job.

Clearly they dance to a different drummer.
