Just buy the power cord when the iPhone will no longer update then purchase your new iPhone. Also your obsolete phone even after activation will still connect to the internet with wifi, take pictures, play stored music files. I have an iPhone3 that still is operational for mp3, video, pictures although much smaller screen works fine will not update
