I just moved from The Villages after having a home there for many many years. There were many reasons (amenity fees, bonds, houses too close together )but crime was one of them. The Villages is in no way gated. There is more and more crime in there.
Before you buy in The Villages check out places in Ocala, Leesburg, Summerfield. There are many nice communities in the area. Do your research.
