We go that way all the time. Even though 301 has speed limits you must obey, it's direct. The more northern section is only 2 lane but not busy at all, then it hits A1A, and soon goes into a 4 lane highway the last 10 minutes before I-95. Our Garmin wants us to go 301 then east on I-10 to I-295 to I- 95. A cop told us about the A1A/301 "shortcut" as he called it. Our best time was 2 1/2 hour to the Florida border but mostly it takes 2 3/4 hours.
