I really don't care either way of the outcome of this particular situation. However a message to town officials - if the richest guy on the block ultimately gets variance to a zoning law why have zoning codes. I'm guilty of not researching this but has there been a time when "The Developer" requested 1 a variance 2 been turn down 3 (this is the operative part) appealed the decision and not been grated the variance ? A simple question- no accusations implied.
