The most important rule I learned when taking up golf was to play fast.
The second was to rake the traps after exiting.
The third was to repair/fill divots and ball marks on the green.
Unfortunately, those three rules don’t seem to apply to Executive golf in The Villages. I’ve never seen more greens with unrepaired ball marks than the Executives.
That’s why I can’t treat golf on the Executives as anything more than practice. I still play fast, but don’t take it too seriously.
I head to the Championship courses for that.
The fourth rule is to avoid confrontation if at all possible, which challenges patience far greater than the game of golf itself.
