If your finger was sprained you would be treated with a splint or by buddy taping the injured finger to its neighbor. If you had a simple fracture your finger would be treated with a splint or by buddy taping the injured finger to its neighbor. Only a very few complex fractures require anything more. So the Urgent Care doctor could have splinted or taped you and sent you on your way with a phone call follow-up to report the Xray later that day or even the next day. Frankly, I would think the Urgent Care doctor could read a finger Xray for anything major and depend on the radiologist for finding more subtle abnormalities.
