Cheap heavy, cabinets and furniture is often made from material sold under several names some are particle board and chip board. It is essentially saw dust glued together.
It often contains sand and is tough on tools. It is flat, it is stable it is not very strong.

My opinion plastic is a better option. There are cheep and better quality plastic cabinets.
