Endless posts that end up my grass can take your grass. The two most common grasses in the Villages are St Augustine and Empire Zoysia. There is no such thing as perfect grass. For that matter what we insist on growing a,"perfect," one plant lawn is contrary to nature.
Confession, I have Empire Zoysia. It is a finer blade grass than is St Augustine. It survives broad leaf weed killer better than St Augustine. The lawn mowing people sooner or later will bring St Augustine into your Empire Zoysia lawn. A simple solution, that people can't seem to find and answer, a strong enough application of 24d will kill the St Augustine. Strong enough to do this will damage but not kill the Empire Zoysia. Empire Zoysia goes dormant in dry conditions. It is dormant and it will come back.
I think St Augustine needs less water and fertilizer but when it turns brown from lack of water, IT IS DEAD.
Either can produce a nice lawn. Care is different.
