If you want a 'mask' to work, you need a respirator, the type you see body shop painters using. There is a definite seal around the mouth and nose. Air passes through a filter that captures any virus.

That is FALSE. Period.
There is plenty of science to prove masks work. Their "job" is to reduce the chance to spread the virus - either in getting or giving it.
Now, if you want to say, as you did, that some masks are more effective than others. I agree N95 is the most effective generally available mask. But even it has to be fitted correctly.
To make a categorical statement that masks don't work is just misinformation.
