Yup, cars are more expensive now even when accounting for inflation. But they are also WAY safer than cars in the past and that has a cost. and frankly modern cars don't rust out like they did back then (especially if you lived in the North and had to deal with winters and road salt). And the 70s? Most cars were junk. Absolute junk. Detroit was shipping garbage. Yes, used cars were cheaper. but so was everything else. but guess what? so was the average wage
