The difference is that a solo player has to go to each ball and hit one at a time whereas a 2,3,or 4 group each goes to their ball separately and hit pretty close to one another. In your scenario, where you seem to think it is fine even if he hits 4 balls, and sprays them all over the course, you have to wait for him to go to each ball. This argument is silly.
