I played Black Bear on Thursday and it was in it's usual excellent condition. The greens were fast but not too fast, the tee boxes were good and the fairways were cut long enough to get good lies but short enough to still get some roll.
By comparison, I played Glenview (Tally to Fox) on Friday.
The greens were comparable to Black Bear although slower, the tee boxes were fair and the fairway were comparable to Black Bear. This is not always the case in TV as, in my opinion, they normally cut the fairways too short. This often means a hard bare lie which makes good ball striking difficult for the mid to high handicapper and makes them more likely to go brown and unsightly. I'm sure most golfers would give up a few yards in roll to have the ball sitting well when they hit the fairway.
