Another slant on the same thing circa 2019...

Recently, the idea of Nationalism has been the topic of many conversations in the United States. Nationalism, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is "Loyalty and devotion to a nation, especially a sense of national consciousness exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups."

The nationalistic ideals that have been spread all throughout the United States have resulted in lines being blurred between the concepts of Patriotism vs. Nationalism. These two concepts are entirely different, however, they seem to be more and more difficult to differentiate.

As we listen to the moderns speak of being “patriotic”, it might behovee us to read and understand that difference.

There is a difference between “Americans first” and “Americans only”

Sharing a quote, accurate in my opinion, from Sydney Harris....
“The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does; the first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility, but the second a feeling of blind arrogance that leads to war.”

Sydney Harris's quote needs to be broadcast far and wide.
