First the year of the golf cart is very important. The previous owner may have had the yamaha fuel gauge that INCLUDES a small red light near the top of the gauge, if you you do not need to do anything. If the cart is an older model, then the light is for low oil, if it is a newer EFI type the light can come on and FLASH when the key is turned off. The first flashes are longer (first digit) then there is a short time delay and then shorter flashes (second digit). These are error codes for the engine/EFI system.

Back to your original question, you should be able to get any 12 volt LED panel light from an automotive store, and connect the black wire to ground, and the red wire to the wire that went to the original light. This light should come on for a short time when you first start the cart.
