I still canceled the service, but learned not to pay in advance for lawn care.
Go easy on the "I told you so's", I'm just relaying my particular experience for newbies.

Re; trying to get to a HUMAN.
That seems to be the new normal. I had four different issues, with four totally unrelated companies going at the same time. That is the worst I ever had in my life. Aside, I got all four taken care of. It was a lot of work. DONE-nope I had another one last week. Stubborn mode, I got that one done YESTERDAY. Amusing, the last one I spoke to a computer that was so good I asked it if it was HUMAN. Another one has like 20 different options and at the end if offers you to go through it all over again.
I regularly, when I get a human, try to bond with them. Reason so they WANT TO HELP YOU. First thing is to be sure the PERSON you are talking to has the POWER to do anything. Often you are dealing with a clerk that can only do what she/he has been told to do. We all tend t use the phone, it is easy to do. A LETTER to the higher ups, assuming it is a corporation it is easy to find name of the owner-the president.
The pictures. It looks like it is the entire lawn. It looks like it is just the lawn and it is even.
Strange. I would have guessed water issue but as we have been getting plenty of rain, my sprinkler is shut off. The reason, the fault I do not know.
Were it me, I would cut out a square of the lawn preferably, if you have one, from a spot where it is green with some that is dead and take it to cooperative extension for advice.
It is FREE and you can put the patch back where you took it from.
