There is a difference in Third Dose and Booster Dose
Third doses of both shots were approved for people who were immunocompromised. These were specified not as boosters but as necessary in the series of first dose for people who were not building the full antibodies due to medical conditions (HIV, Cancer treatments, RA treatments, etc.) All of these treatments shut down your natural immunities in order to all the drugs to come in and kill these diseases.
Now comes the booster shot. Pfizer applied for and got approval for booster shots for people whose antibodies start waning. The CDC only recommended the BOOSTER shot for people 65 and older. Yes, it is exactly the same shot that those receiving a 3rd shot are getting but there is a distinction about why people are receiving it.
Moderna has not yet applied for approval for the booster dose. 3rd shot doses are approved.
If anyone is getting the 3rd shot of Moderna right now it is because they are attesting that they are immunocompromised individuals and meet the criteria.
