It was fun though Awkwafina was so thoroughly into playing the same comedic character that she always does that it took me out of the film, especially when she seemed to drag Simu Liu's performance into her goofy comedic sphere. The crossover to the Doctor Strange film (and upcoming sequel) was a nice surprise for me.
Not really being a Marvel comic geek, I am not sure just how big Shang-Chi is in the Marvel Universe, so I've wondered if this film was either a chance to have a mostly-Asian casted film to make up for the lack of Asian representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (like having Tilda Swinton play The Ancient One in Doctor Strange or Ben Kingsley play The Mandarin in Iron Man 3) or a chance at going big in China. If the latter, it backfired when China banned the film due to some online comments a few years ago about China by Simu Liu.
