As I understand it, there a two types of golf carts. The ones used on the multi modal paths, the speed limit is 20 mph. The street legal ones, you need plates, insurance and a license to drive, the speed limit is 35 mph.
Rumor perhaps. I met a guy who claims to be involved in selling golf carts and he said the police are clamping down. He went through the whole story. If, you are caught doing more than 20mph in a golf cart with no plates and insurance, and there is no shortage of people who turn up the speed control it will cost you around $300. You do not need to be going more than 20 mph. Having a cart that is set to do more than 20 mph can result in the same fine.
