Went into Chase Bank where we were told that the check was void since we scratched out on it.....it was in the name of the account holder and wanting to cash her own check. The teller went to the manager and was told that the check was void....Thoughts? We are now saying good bye to Chase Bank. Your thoughts?

Alterations make a legal document (bank check) ambiguous and the bank is likely responsible for any future dispute about the altered document. Lower level bank employees such as tellers generally don’t have their employer’s authority to make judgements about the degree of bank risk even if small.
I believe this is a reasonable bank practice when dealing with tellers. A higher level bank employee might have a different outcome because they usually have more authority to make judgments.
