i live in Lousiana which has hard clay soil but lived in Florida for 13 years and have always used Scotts plus for southern lawns and only use it twice a season. My lawn is the greenest and thickest lawn in the subdivision and I use a hand held spreader. If your lawnservice does your fertilizing find out what product they are using. The first year i was here our service ( Provided by the HOA) used something else and I could tell the difference and that is why I do my own fertilizing now. I watched the guy spreading it on the neighbors places last week and he doesnt put it down as thick as i do either . A couple of big circles and he was done. As for aerating - You have golf shoes? Walk around the lawn with them on.
