They are amusing little critters though.
We have several living under the hedge near our front door. A big male (well, "big" in lizard terms) with a colorful red dewlap which he was displaying prominently a few months back, a female, and numerous little ones. The big male was afraid of me at first but now will just stand there within arm's reach. Not tame, but...
My thought is that as long as I know lizards are living under my hedge, I can be pretty certain that snakes aren't.
