We signed a contract on March 31, 2009. This is how it went. First we picked a basic model (Designer, Begonia) Then we went searching for a lot, interior nothing special. Put a down payment of $2500 to hold the lot. We were ready to build so we went to the models to picked out interior items. The agent took us into each different model and we chose fixtures, counter tops, carpet, tile, did we want blinds, did we want a walk in shower, and on and on. Each model had different items. Then the same for the exterior. All this info was put on paper and given to the builders. The builders came back with a price. At this point we had to decide was this more or less than we wanted to pay. If it was to much we could have sent the builder different specs. and they would have given us a new price to build. The price they gave us the first time was about what we figured and the specs were what we wanted. So then we were ready to sign the contract to build. We signed a stack of papers and handed over 20% of the price. A few days later we were told our settelment would be on June 18.

The only thing I did not like was they would not give us a price to change one item. You had to give them the whole package and they came back with a package price. If you changed your mind and wanted a different door knob for example, you had to send the whole ball of wax to them again wait a day and get a new package price. We asked what the difference in price was between a regular garage and one bumped out a few feet. They said we could send another package to the builders. we declined.

We will be renting a nice home May and June and moving things to the rental's garage in the next few weeks and then moving to Hadley the last few weeks in June.

It has been a very easy and comfortable process so far. I hope the closing is as easy.
