History is interesting, few know or care. There is a fort in Canada now a tourist trap museum that was built to fend off a take over from the United States.
My grandparents on my mother's side, my grandfather passed when I was like 5 so never had a chance to ask him about it. They came into the US as Canadians. Actually they were illegal aliens. They were eastern European and went around the quota system.
In the mid 70's I went to school in Syracuse NY. You could drive across the boarder with ease. It was a long time ago. If, I recall they asked you to see your driver's license and you were in. Out, I don't think anyone cared to look.
Things have changed worldwide 9/11, covid, it will never be as it once was.
