For an SUV, we like our Toyota Highlander though it's a few years old and I don't know what newer models are like. I see someone recommended the Rav 4 - that is another that we would be looking at.
If you don't need an SUV and are looking for a nice, everyday car we really liked our Toyota Prius. 50mpg at 200,000 miles and still running well when we traded it in. Oil change, air filter, and tires were the only maintenance items we needed.
