Got me
Never thought it would happen, but they got me. Received notice that my Norton Anti-virus had been renewed for $261. I know that I had set my preference to not renew. Called the 800 number in the email They said that because of their mistake they would cancel the charge and put $100 in my checking account as a gift for their error. OK! Gave them my account number and checked and sure enough they had put $1000 in my account. I told him they had made a mistake! Oh NO! I'll lose my job. I can't take it out, I can only make a deposit. Please go out and buy two $500 gift cards and I'll put $200 back in your account for the trouble. Like an idiot I bought the two cards, gave him the numbers and good bye charlie. The money was never really in my account. He showed me a picture of my checking account with the $1000 deposit, but when I went back to check it, it wasn't there. I went to the bank the next day and they said that the deposit was never there and it was a screen shot that he created and showed me. He has even called back to apologize and said I can straighten this out with your help. No thanks! You've helped me enough. Had to close my account, scrub my computer, open a new bank account and kiss $1K bye, bye.
I'm embarrassed to tell this story, but it's true, and I'm an idiot. The bank said that they had seen this several times, so guess I'm not the only idiot.
