I have read a lot of his stuff, even contributed a couple of nickels along the way. One wonderful nugget I got from him was something to the effect of "The best camera for your outing is the one you are willing to bring along with you that day. If you don't want to carry the Nikon, bring the 'point and shoot'. You never know what you'll come across."
This was before smartphones took such nice pictures.
More than once I got a shot with my old "point and shoot", or more recently my iPhone, that I would have missed otherwise, because I did not want to be encumbered with my heavy SLR.
