While this freeze is in the Arctic, it is the Arctic off the coast of Siberia, not Alaska or Canada. Ships there are required to hire icebreakers to accompany them at this time of year, but the ships that are stuck broke the law and didn’t. They thought they could sneak through and save the expense. Some may be stuck for several months.
The article DOES NOT mention ships running on Wind or Solar at all. You made that up. Even if there were gigantic ships filled with oil or iron ore (like these) that could run entirely on wind or solar (and there aren’t), there is precious little sunlight to be had in the Arctic at this time of year. Play fair!
