We, too, were told by Villages Golf Carts that they no longer service carts not purchased there - too busy. I imagine those who have used them for years will continue to get service, but the OP was correct about their current service. Their current policy is that they service only what they sell.
Understandable that they can only service "their" customers. When you are by far the number one golf cart retailer, probably in the world with an average cart sales at 450 a month, it makes sense.
