I'm'a gonna go out on a limb here with some thoughts. They are not necessarily the Developer's thoughts, or others here. In fact, they probably aren't.

The entire point of The Villages, including all the golf courses, and all the amenities, is very simple. To make money, primarily by selling houses. The Villages is owned by a family in the business of real estate development.

EVERYthing else they do, EVERYthing, is to make their development more attractive so it sells for as much as they can get. That is the entire point of the exercise, IMHO.

That being said, why on earth would they make neighboring (and competing) developments more attractive by allowing them access to amenities The Villages planned, built, and paid for? I assume that's why they do not allow non-resident / non-employees to utilize their highly ranked schools either. The $50/month or any other "non-resident access" fee would take forever and many many users to offset the thousands in profits of selling someone a house instead.

I'd be interested to hear other peoples' thoughts on the topic.
