When we first moved here I found a couple piles of fresh doggie dung in my yard one morning. I cleaned it up, then bought one of those little signs at Lowe's that has a cute puppy on it together with a reminder to "clean up the mess" or something along those lines.
A couple of days later my sign was still there, but turned around. But the poop piles stopped.
