Ten years? I think you got more than your money's worth out of that washer. Probably not worth fixing at this point.
As far as new ones go...I've had some not-so-good experiences with the LG line of stuff in the past. Not washers but electronics. They seem to be priced more cheaply but, as they say, you get what you pay for. Maytag, GE, etc. are known names. Another brand to consider is Bosch. They're not as well known but I know a couple of people who have had them and think they're great.
