Correct it does stand for generation. Thus it would be improper to make it plural as in Gs. A totally meaningless marketing ploy. How do you know what you are getting. Is the new generation better than the old - by how much. What constitutes a generation. As the commercial says "hey Becky what's with the Gs" and Becky in her infinite wisdom answers back we have 5 of them.
