P. J. O’Rourke had a brilliant wit. Always hit his mark with perfect accuracy — without being hateful. (Christopher Buckley’s satire, like his 2007 book Boomsday, was fun to read, but P.J. O’Rourke’s edge was the sharpest and the best.)
There are very few “commentators” like P.J. O’Rourke anymore. Now all we seem to get are the “Babbling for Dullards” bunch.
The ever insightful O’Rourke could sometimes come off like a curmudgeon, long before his time. One of his quips that I always liked was on what he thought some of the “younger” generation needed to do. . .“Pull your pants up, turn your hat around, and get a job.”
Goodbye, P. J., fellow boomer, fellow Ohioan, and Miami University English major.
