I ride on the residential streets now. But about 5 years ago, I would ride on the MMPs. I never expected that I could count on golf cart drivers looking out for my best interests 100% of the time. So, I would turn my head or look in a bike mirror to see the golf cars that were coming up behind me. Then I would stop the bike and move to about 1 foot on the grass. I tend to have a lot of respect for animals, golf carts, and other vehicles that are bigger than me. When I am driving a car I like to respect bikes, walkers, and golf carts. When I was younger and living out in the western US, I would ride a mountain bike. And I would ride on trails or areas where there were no others around. I would enjoy the quiet and nature and the exercise, of course.
That is just basically my attitude. I am retired now, so I don't normally need to be anywhere in a hurry. Bikers riding in the middle of an MMP lane and DARING golf cart drivers to pass them seem unrealistic and belligerent to me. And golf cart drivers wanting to PUSH the bikers off of their self-proclaimed MMP seem DANGEROUSLY belligerent to me. If a friend told me that they drove their golf cart like that just to save some time and take out their aggressions, I would cease to associate with them! That's my opinion.
