I have the same thing happening. My house was built in 2000 (30 years after 1970) for the people who think they stopped sooner. The problem (mine anyway) is it's on a joint with no blocking. Trusses run one way and that joint the other way and it's close to door opener motor. I just live with it for now. If I repair it I will get up in the attic and put in some 2X4 blocking first. You're correct..... IT'S A GARAGE.
