Hi bigrichie,
I can't help you specifically with ultra-lite info but I can point you toward another flying group in TV. The Hangar Flyers.
Mr. Boomer is a single-engine, instrument-rated pilot and although we do not live in TV at this time, when we visited he attended a meeting of the Hangar Flyers. At that time, 2007, the meeting was held on the historic side in a really nice recreation center that I cannot remember the name of. My guess is they could connect you to about any kind of flying that is there in TV.
I think TV has every kind of pilot you can think of. And the Hangar Flyers will probably know about them.
Here in Ohio where we live, an ultra-lite flies over our house on nice evenings. Mr. Boomer runs outside and looks up longingly. And I always go to look, too, and then I say, "Hey! Isn't that thing the classic definition of having your behind in a sling? Isn't that a lawnmower engine?"
And then Mr. B. patiently explains to me every time how that engine is a lot more powerful than a lawnmower engine and then he goes into a big thing about gliders. And then my eyes glaze over and I run back into the house.
Mr. Boomer's next adventure is probably going to be to get a glider rating. When Sully landed that plane in the Hudson River, Mr. B. went to work on me about the glider rating thing. I almost always give in. Although I do always say that I wish I could get that man interested in cheap hobbies like carving polar bears out of soap. (I have not given in about the ultra-lites though. I believe he took a ride in one once on his annual pilgrimage to Oshkosh. I think that's what it was. Some guy was taking people for rides to try to sell them.)
But I know how you guys who love to fly are. And when you find any group of pilots there in TV, I bet they will know where the ultra-lites are. And when we are there in TV and you are flying above, know that down below Mr. Boomer is looking up longingly and I am trying to drag him back into the house.
Anyway, Mr. B. really liked the Hangar Flyers meeting. And I bet if you connect with them, they could help you. .
So have fun with your new wings and have fun meeting other pilots along the way. I know that you will enjoy all of it.
