Ships that report illness usually report it on multiple passengers. When one person who contracted the flu yesterday, comes on board today and gets sick with symptoms tomorrow, it's VERY likely that a lot of other people will be getting sick on the ship that week.
It's the nature of the business, when you have a lot of people in a confined space, even if that "confined" space is the length of three football fields. They all climb the same stairways and share the same elevators for every meal afterall.
