DC motors are known to have greater torque than AC motors. I was an electrician in a steel mill for a while. The motors weighed around 500 lbs and were all DC. So, a DC golf cart motor should not have any problem going up a steep hill. AC motors used in homes on 120 volt AC are known to spin fast, but have low torque.
